1995 Semillon
Blackwood Canyon is dedicated to producing wines of complexity, depth and
character. Blackwood Canyon accomplishes this by utilizing traditional turn
of the century (1900.s) European techniques. For this Semillon these practices
include barrel fermentation, extended lees aging for 2 years, no fining, then
bottle aging prior to release.
This 1995 Semillon is from our vineyard we call the Orchard. It is not your
standard semillon, which is typically overcropped. Instead of the normal 8-12
tons per acre, this semillon harvest was 1/2 a ton per acres. Instead
of the common thin semillon, this wine has strength and vigor. The elegant
floral nose is integrated with the flavors and aromas of tangerine and
grapefruit zest, then enhanced by a long lingering finish. It is a tremendous
food wine enhancing shellfish to poultry and a favorite with southwest and Asian cuisines.
Serving suggestions: Further aging. Let settle after the shock of travel.
Serve at 65°F to 70°F. DO NOT CHILL.
Total production: 374 cases. Released Spring 2002.
